We are approaching the last days of the year and, although this stage is usually quiet, in 2020 it was a little different, since the debut of Cyberpunk 2077 occurred, one of the most anticipated games of the generation and of recent times. The game had a world premiere on December 10, and in Japan it performed very well, but not enough to debut in first place.
Famitsu (via Gematsu) released the latest sales information for physical and console games, which ran from the week of December 7-13. What definitely attracted the most attention is the arrival of Cyberpunk 2077 to the Japanese market, since it was the strongest launch of the week when it sold 104,687 units, but surprisingly they did not reach the top of the list.
A new Konami game continues to lead in Japan
So what was the game that beat Cyberpunk 2077? If you follow the weekly sales reports, you probably know that a very popular Konami game recently arrived in Japan that has caused a sensation. We refer to Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban !, a game that mixes Monopoly mechanics and mini-games and makes players navigate a board.
This Konami game managed to sell 166,774 units, something incredible if we consider that the previous week it had sold 115,884 copies and has been the sales leader for almost 4 consecutive weeks.
It is important to mention that Cyberpunk 2077 debuted on December 10 in Japan, which is why the sales of the game were only recorded in its first 4 days on the market. Likewise, it should also be noted that the new Momotaro Dentetsu game is a great phenomenon that is close to one million physical units sold, a figure that has already exceeded if we count sales in digital format.
