Do Xbox controllers use batteries because of Duracell?

Microsoft wants consumers to have a choice

Although rechargeable batteries are the standard for wireless controllers, Xbox still offers controllers that require batteries. Information recently circulated that seemed to indicate that this decision was for a deal with Duracell, the battery brand, but everything indicates that this is not the case.

It all started with an interview Luke Anderson, UK Marketing Manager for Duracell, had with Stealth Optional. In it he commented that for several years they have an alliance with Xbox to provide the batteries for the controls and launch joint marketing strategies.

“There has always been this alliance between Duracell and Xbox. It is an ongoing agreement that Duracell and Microsoft have. [The deal] is for us to deliver the battery product for Xbox consoles and also for controller batteries. The deal has been in place for a while… it has been for a while and I think it should continue for a while [more]”,explained the marketing manager.
