Technological executive explains how the social network deals with hate speech and misinformation.
Facebook’s vice president of global affairs and communications, Nick Clegg, is the author of a post on the company’s blog where he explains how the technology looks at hate speech and misinformation.
The publication was made in response to the boycott that Facebook has been targeted by several major advertisers on the platform, including renowned companies such as The North Face, Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Microsoft, Lego , Ford and Adidas.
“When the content is not classified as hate speech – or other policies designed to prevent danger or suppression of votes – we go to the side of freedom of expression because, in the end, the best way to counter offensive and divisive speech is more speech . Exposing it to daylight is better than hiding it in the shadows, ”explained Clegg.
