On the official Twitter account for the anime adaptation of the light novels written by Aneko Yusagi and illustrated by Minami seira, Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (The Rising of the Shield Hero), a commercial was published for the second season starring the character Edge. Currently the series has a re-broadcast in Japan since last September 29.
This second season was scheduled to premiere in the Fall-2021 (October-December) season, but was delayed until the Spring-2022 (April-June) season due to “various reasons”. For its part, Aneko Yusagi began the publication of novels by Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari through the service Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2012 and completed it in 2015. Subsequently, Kadokawa began its publication on paper with illustrations of Minami seira in August 2013.
The play inspired a 25-episode anime adaptation produced by the studios. Kinema Citrus, under the direction of Takao Abo and scripts written by Keigo Koyonagi, released in January 2019. The production of a second and third seasons is confirmed and the platform Crunchyroll handles its distribution in the West.
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Synopsis
The Four Heroes are a group of ordinary men from modern Japan summoned to the kingdom of Melromarc to become its saviors. Melromarc is a country ravaged by the Waves of Calamity that have repeatedly ravaged the land and brought disaster to its citizens for centuries. The four heroes are respectively given a sword, a spear, a bow and a shield to defeat these waves. Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku, suffers the curse of being the “Hero of the Shield.” Armed with only a miserable shield, Naofumi is looked down upon and ridiculed by his fellow heroes and the people of the kingdom due to his weak offensive capabilities and lackluster personality.
When the heroes have resources and comrades to train with, Naofumi sets out with the only person willing to train alongside him, Malty Melromarc. However, he is soon betrayed by her and falsely accused of taking advantage of her. Naofumi is then heavily discriminated against and hated by the people of Melromarc for something he did not do. With a raging storm of pain and mistrust in his heart, Naofumi begins his journey to strengthen himself and his reputation. Later, however, the difficulty of being alone arises, so Naofumi purchases a near-death demi-human slave named Raphtalia to accompany him on his travels. As the waves approach the kingdom, Naofumi and Raphtalia must fight for the kingdom’s survival and protect the people of Melromarc from their dire future.
