More than 28,000 people died in France due to the coronavirus epidemic since March 1,483 of whom died in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health reported on Sunday.
This is the highest daily balance of deceased in recent weeks and is mainly due to deaths recorded in nursing homes (+429 compared to Saturday), while in hospitals 54 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours, which brought the total death toll to 28,108.
The General Directorate of Health could not specify to AFP the reasons for this significant rise and limited itself to indicate that all the daily balances are carried out with an “update of the data transmitted by the regional health agencies” to the national health agency.
In contrast, hospitalizations and intensive care admissions continue to decline.
There are currently 2,087 seriously ill COVID-19s in intensive care units in France, while a week ago there were 2,776. This Sunday, 24 new serious cases were admitted to intensive care (compared to 38 a week earlier).
Since the epidemic began, 98,569 people have been hospitalized, 17,500 of them in intensive care. More than 61,000 healed.
