Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Gaiden reveals second season trailer

On the official Twitter account for the Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Gaiden (Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story) multimedia franchise, a new promotional video for the second season of the project was posted. The video is blocked on YouTube for playback outside of Japan.

This second season has its premiere scheduled for July 31 in Japan. The Funimation platform will begin broadcasting the series in the West “at the end of this month” while Crunchyroll will broadcast it later, until August 7. On the other hand, the first season of the animated adaptation aired during the Winter-2020 season (January-March), with a total of thirteen episodes. The franchise is based on a smartphone game released for mobile devices in Japan in August 2017.

  • Takumi Ozawa is in charge of the composition of the soundtrack.
    The ClariS Music Unit performs the opening song titled “Careless”, while the TrySail Music Unit performs the closing song “Lapis”.

Synopsis for Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Gaiden

It is rumored that if a young girl makes a deal with a white fairy, she will grant whatever wishes her heart desires. However, in return, she will become a magical girl and must risk her life to destroy fearsome and ferocious witches. Iroha Tamaki, a kind-hearted high school student from Takarazaki City, is living proof that these rumors are true. Armed with a magical crossbow and the ability to heal wounds, Iroha searches the labyrinths where witches hide and defeats them before they can attack humans. However, Iroha doesn’t remember her wish, and even Kyuubey, the white fairy herself, seems to have no idea what Iroha asked of her.

One day, Iroha hears rumors of a city where “magical girls can be saved” and she finds herself on a train at sunset to the city of Kamihama. Unfortunately, she discovers that the witches in Kamihama are much more powerful than usual. After veteran magical girl Yachiyo Nanami is forced to save her, Iroha vows never to return. But when a chance encounter with a little Kyuubey seems to trigger distant memories, she Iroha is forced to investigate the mysterious city despite the danger.
