Married the man who saved her from the Las Vegas shooting

Chantal Melanson and Austin Monfort met the day before the 2017 shooting in Las Vegas.

A woman who lives in California fell in love and married the man who saved her life during the October 2017 shooting in Las Vegas. It is recalled that 58 people died and about 800 were injured.

“I felt safe with him. I didn’t want to leave his side,” said Chantal Melanson.

The couple met the day before the shooting in the city, where they were going to attend the Route 91 Harvest Festival. “I found him very nice and handsome. It was easy to talk to him, it seemed like we had known each other forever,” she recalled.

The second meeting took place at the festival and was interrupted by gunfire when Stephen Paddock, 64, began firing shots toward the audience.

“I remember, one moment, being on the ground looking at Austin trying to understand what was going on, and the other, when he was grabbing my hand and pulling me to a safe place”, recalls Chantal.

After that, they spent the night together until both had to resume their routines. The trauma strengthened the bond between the two, and they ended marrying each other this year in March.

Due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus, the couple had to postpone the family celebrations in order to fulfill the social distance.
