Mel Gibson confirms ‘Lethal Weapon 5’

The director of the four previous installments, Richard Donner, is working on the project.

More than 20 years have passed since Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Murtaugh (Danny Glover) appeared for the last time in Lethal Weapon 4. Two decades in which countless times have worked to recover the characters in a new installment. At the beginning of 2020, the news suggested that a new project would be about to see the light of day, words that have finally been confirmed by Gibson himself.

The American actor has announced that Richard Donner, director of the four previous titles in the franchise, will be at the helm of the fifth film. This was confirmed during an interview for Good Morning America for the promotion of his new film Fatman, where he was asked if Lethal Weapon 5 was underway. “Of course. The man who has been behind all this, the man who brought it to the screen and gave the treats, is working on it right now: Richard Donner. He’s a legend.”

The new title would mean Donner’s return to management. The filmmaker has only directed two films since 2000 (Timeline and 16 streets), both without great repercussion.

Gibson (64) and Glover (74) played detectives for the first time in 1987. The film was written by Shane Black (Iron Man 3) and achieved such success that it started the franchise, through which familiar faces like Joe Pesci have passed. and Chris Rock. We do not know if the veteran actors will be able to return in top form, Glover already announced his retirement from acting since the first film in the saga. Will we see both of them together again on the big screen?
