Awkwafina’s career is prodigious. Not only has she combined her musical career with acting, but within this field she is displaying a multitude of facets, from the intimate drama in the acclaimed The Farewell to blockbuster comedies in the style of Crazy Rich Asians. Her immediate future is full of projects such as The Prom, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and a voice acting in the remake of The Little Mermaid, to which we must now add a promising drama developed by Apple.
Its title is Swan Song, and media such as The Hollywood Reporter realize that the film will also star Glenn Close in a cast where Naomie Harris and the Oscar-winning Mahersala Ali also stand out, after both shared the bill in Moonlight. Directed and written by newcomer Benjamin Cleary (a signatory of short films so far), not much is known about its plot, beyond the fact that it is set in “the near future” and that it explores “how far someone can go and how much you can sacrifice to make the lives of those you love happier ”.
In Swan Song Awkwafina plays Karte, Cameron’s (Ali) best friend, who is married to Poppy (Harris). Close, meanwhile, will be Dr. Scott, and we will soon be able to see her in Hillbilly, a rural elegy with Amy Adams: a film directed by Ron Howard for Netflix that seemed destined to top the Oscar nominations, but according to the First reviews promise to be one of the most joyous bluffs of the year. It opens this November 24.
