The original anime Bakuten!! will have a movie

Following the airing of its final episode, the original anime from Fuji TV and ZEXCS studios, Bakuten!! (Backflip!!), announced the production of an animated feature film. The press release included a promotional video, but did not reveal the production details or release date for this film.

The series was announced in November 2020 and takes place in Miyagi Prefecture. In fact, it is one of three projects planned in conjunction with Misaki no Mayoiga and Hula Fulla Dance, which aim to promote the Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima Prefectures, respectively. This project is titled “Zutto Ouen Project 2011 + 10”, and is being carried out to commemorate the great earthquake and tsunami of 2011.

Cast of voices

  • Shimba Tsuchiya as Shoutarou Futaba.
  • Kaito Ishikawa as Ryouya Misato.
  • Daisuke Ono as Masamune Shichigahama, captain of the rhythmic gymnastics team.
  • Takashi Kondo as Keisuke Tsukidate, vice-captain of the team.
  • Hiro Shimono as Nagayoshi Onagawa, a third-year student.

Production team

  • Toshimasa Kuroyanagi (Fune wo Amu, Omoi, Omoware, Furi, Furare) was directing the anime at ZEXCS studios.
  • Toshizo Nemoto (Log Horizon 2, Macross Delta, Juushinki Pandora) was in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
  • Robico (Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun) was in charge of the original character design, while Yuuki Shibata was in charge of adapting them to animation and directing the animation.

Bakuten!! Synopsis

The story takes place in Miyagi Prefecture, in the city of Iwanuma, and centers on a rhythmic gymnastics team from a high school. The series centers on Shoutarou Futaba, who is fascinated by gymnastics after witnessing it in his junior year of high school, and who joins the rhythmic gymnastics team at Soushuukan Academy. There he will befriend his classmate Ryouta Misato, who gained fame in the sport of rhythmic gymnastics during high school.
