They signal changes to original story in anime Kanojo mo Kanojo

A popular comment forum in Japan reported that the most recent episode of the animated manga adaptation Kanojo mo Kanojo (Girlfriend, Girlfriend) altered the original events of the story. According to the entry, the episode adapted chapters 37 and 38 of the original manga, and part of chapters 19 and 20. The comment writes:

“With this as a precedent, Naoya should have hugged Nagisa dressed as a maid in the scene in question. However, in the animation she simply patted his head. It could be or that they were ahead of the events and that they thought it would not be congruent to show that level of intimacy just yet. I’ve endured bad character designs and a semi-mediocre art style, but changing the story is unforgivable.”

Another user compiled the original chapters of the manga that have been adapted in the project to date:

  • Episode 1 – Chapters 1 to 3 (3 chapters).
  • Episode 2 – Chapters 4 to 7 (4 chapters).

Synopsis of Kanojo mo Kanojo

After harboring an unrequited love for several years, Naoya Mukai finally gets a date with her childhood friend, Saki Saki. However, just as he tries to commit to this relationship, he receives an abrupt confession from Nagisa Minase.

At first, Naoya tries to reject her but is soon overwhelmed by feelings of not wanting to hurt her. Trying to avoid betraying his girlfriend’s trust in him, Naoya thinks of a “solution” to make them both happy: go out with both of them. Naturally, Saki rejects the idea, but through Naoya and Nagisa’s persistence, she ends up accepting. With this, a three-member romance begins between Naoya, his girlfriend, and his other girlfriend, who already have a relationship that deviates from the social norm to begin with.
