At Marvel they are committed to not spoiling 2021 after the ruinous year that (fortunately) is already coming to an end. For the first time without any Marvel premiere on the billboards since 2008, the company led by Kevin Feige has already organized the filming schedule for the coming year, confirming that Black Panther 2 will begin production (despite the death of Chadwick Boseman) in July 2021. The same source that revealed it to The Hollywood Reporter also gave a very juicy detail about another future Marvel premiere.
In this way, Thor: Love and Thunder will give the “feeling of being Avengers 5” due to its cast. No details have been given beyond the striking phrase, but the ground is fertile enough to speculate: a few days ago we learned that Chris Pratt would reprise the role of Peter Quill (aka StarLord) in the film directed by Taika Waititi, joining A cast where Chris Hemsworth already appears as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman returning to be Jane Foster in a peculiar position: receiving the Mjolnir, falling ill with cancer and becoming Mighty Thor. Enough superheroes to make an alternate Avengers team, right?
The fact is that Avengers: Endgame (the last time we would attend a major crossover in a long time, according to the Phase 4 schedule) ended with Thor joining the crew of the Guardians of the Galaxy, so we cannot rule out that other members of this team accompany Quill into Thor: Love and Thunder. A combined group of Asgard heroes and galactic antiheroes facing off against the villain played by Christian Bale would perfectly fit the adjectives that have already been thrown around the film, of the caliber of “very crazy” and, sticking to Thor’s relationship and Jane, “very romantic.”
Love and Thunder will be Waititi’s second film after Ragnarok, and it is scheduled to begin filming in Australia in January 2021. Its release is set for February 11, 2022.
