We could call Chaos Walking the cursed movie. Although filming began in the summer of 2017 starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, the Doug Liman-directed film seemed destined to never be released, caught in a post-production loop.
However, this science fiction film, adaptation of Patrick Ness’s novel The Knife in Hand, already has a release date scheduled for January 22, 2021 and has now released its first trailer, which you can see below:
Set in the near future, Chaos Walking focuses on the story of two young men on a planet allegedly ravaged by a virus that has extinguished women and given men the ability to read the thoughts of other men and animals. Everything changes when Todd Hewitt (Holland) meets Viola (Ridley) and discovers that her entire life could have been a hoax.
In addition to Holland and Ridley (whose respective commitments to Marvel and Star Wars greatly delayed reshoots), the film features Mads Mikkelsen, Nick Jonas, and Cynthia Erivo in its cast.
Recall that after Lionsgate considered the first version of Chaos Walking (which was directed by Liman and had come to count among its writers the unclassifiable Charlie Kaufman) as “inestrenable”, the studio demanded reshoots, and Fede Álvarez was in charge of the same.
Chaos Walking opens on January 22, 2021.
