As it passed through festivals such as Venice or Toronto, Fragmentos de una mujer (the Spanish title for Pieces of a Woman) drew attention for the power of its performances, but especially for its first 23 minutes. Kornél Mundruczo’s film, written by his wife Kata Wéber, describes in this phase of the film how the couple formed by Martha (Vanessa Kirby) and Sean (Shia LaBeouf) lost their child during a home birth due to the negligence of a matron (played by Molly Parker) who will soon be brought to trial.
Kirby, seen in films such as Mission Impossible: Fallout or Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, won the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival for her portrayal of Martha, and the enthusiasm aroused by this psychological drama soon convinced Netflix that it had to acquire its exhibition rights to include it in its catalog. Fragments of a woman will see the light in streaming, therefore, on January 7, 2021, and anticipating this date the platform has released a trailer where Kirby can be confirmed as a possible contender in the Oscar race of the year that comes.
Fragments of a Woman also features Sarah Snook and Ellen Burstyn in the role of Martha’s domineering mother. The idea is that on December 30 the film opens in select theaters.
